What a busy time the last few months have been! Of course we had the normal end of year parties (and Thanksgiving) to keep us busy. In addition, Stephan had to take his Qualification exam (He passed! Praise the Lord! Hooray!), he went to Australia for two weeks (more on that later), and we also had quite a few friends who came to visit. First Mari stopped over for a few days on her trip around the world. Elsa and Mari know each other from living in the same house in London, and Mari and her husband now live in Sydney. (picture below)
Next came Marie with whom Elsa worked at the CSIR. She was on a huge trip of the USA, that included helicopter flights over the Grand Canyon and sky-diving at Monterey. San Francisco was one of the minor stops.
Lastly, Stephan's great friend Lachlan (with whom he shared a house for a couple of years back in Pretoria) visited over Thanksgiving weekend. Lachlan now lives in Taiwan, and he dropped by on his way to attend a wedding - not his own - in Atlanta. The picture below is of the thrilling Stanford vs Notre Dame football game we watched.
Next, Stephan's cousin Stephanie and her husband Drean dropped by on their tour of the Western USA. (picture below)
It now feels like we've perfected the art of showing people round San Francisco in a day: Drive up the 280, take the Great Highway past Ocean Beach, do the Golden Gate Bridge, come back to Lombard street, then Coit tower, and have dinner at Fisherman's Wharf. Chinatown and Union Square are optional extra's on the way back.
Hopefully some of the friends reading this will be tempted to visit next year! Open invite...
